RSPCA South Australia Animal Care Campus

Glenthorne Park - Ityamaiitpinna Yarta

Play an integral role in the most impactful animal welfare project in South Australian history.

A new era in animal care is dawning upon South Australia with the upcoming development of the RSPCA South Australia Animal Care Campus.

Located less than 20km from the Adelaide CBD at O’Halloran Hill, the campus will house South Australia’s first and only purpose-built 24/7 Wildlife Hospital and Veterinary Centre. The campus will form part of Glenthorne National Park – Ityamaiitpinna Yarta and span seven hectares, comprising the wildlife hospital, modern companion animal care services and accommodation, a multifunctional community education centre and centralized RSPCA South Australia rescue, inspectorate and administration services.

The campus will be accessible for native fauna rescue groups across the state to bring in injured wildlife for treatment, and will be the central hub for the more than 1,300 community foster care volunteers. The $27m development is expected to double the number of animals RSPCA South Australia cares for each year.

RSPCA South Australia Animal Care Campus

"A state-of-the-art facility, something we have needed for some time."

Hear from RSPCA South Australia President Rob Di Monte about the many reasons for building South Australia's first Animal Care Campus, how we are planning to do it, what it will achieve, and most importantly - why we need your help.

  • RSPCA South Australia has been working for more than 147 years – protecting and caring for animals. The Animal Care Campus will enable us to continue to do this, but in a much better environment.
  • Our current RSPCA facilities are over 50 years old – well and truly beyond their use-by date. They are the oldest and worst of any RSPCA in the country, and the last to be upgraded or replaced.
  • The new campus will enable RSPCA to bring together our animal facilities from Lonsdale and our rescue, inspectorate and administration services from Stepney together on the same campus.
  • The O’Halloran Hill location brings RSPCA to a more central and accessible location, with public transport and a large amount of space. Being part of a national park is the ideal location for RSPCA to expand our services for wildlife.
  • RSPCA South Australia is calling on our experts from across Australia to help design, build and service the Animal Care Campus. RSPCA Queensland currently run the largest wildlife hospital in Australia, and are helping us to deliver wildlife hospital.
  • The wildlife hospital will support the work of South Australian volunteer wildlife rescue groups by providing free veterinary care for the native animals in their care.
  • RSPCA South Australia will be able to grow our education offering in the prevention of cruelty to animals. Our primary school incursion program AWARE will be expanded and delivered at our state-of-the-art education facilities at the Animal Care Campus.
  • The campus is being funded by RSPCA South Australia reserves and funds from the 2020 bushfire appeal, the sale of our existing properties, a bank loan and a capital fundraising campaign to raise $3m.
  • South Australians have always been integral to the work of RSPCA South Australia, and we invite you to be a part of this journey towards our new campus.
